Opening of our new Library

Recount of New Library Opening

On Friday 13 March the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr John Key came to our school to open our new Library.

All the students gathered in the Auditorium and listened as he was greeted in Te Reo Maori and invited inside. We sang a waiata during the Powhiri and then he talked to us about always striving to reach our goals by giving our best at all times.

After the speeches we went outside and sang again. Students from Pakuranga Intermediate supported us with singing and performing with the Kapahaka group. The boys of the Kapahaka group did a haka and they were fantastic. My Key cut the orange ribbon with orange scissors and pronounced our Library open. We cheered and clapped.

Our councillors took the invited guests and Mr Key for a tour of the Library. After that we all returned to our classroom.

I was very excited about the Library opening and proud that we sang the waita’s well. It was a highlight of my teaching year and I hope Mr Key can return to our school again some day.
